Job Summary: The Medical Records Officer will be responsible and accountable for the maintenance of health records in AMS, helping conduct document audits, gathering and filing patient information.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transfer paper-based patient records to an electronic system (Alliance Management System-AMS).
- Ensure that the medical records are organized, accurate and complete
- Safeguard patient records and ensuring that everyone complies with the set hospital standards and ensuring confidentiality of all medical records information.
- Ensure use of clinical coding to record illnesses and treatments on patient records (ICD10).
- Manage index of patients by auditing, correcting and communicating any discrepancies and inaccuracies to the appropriate staff. (Doctors and specialists complete their notes in AMS)
- Book patient appointments and remind patients (IPD) of the scheduled appointments.
- File loose documentation generated from outside and inside Lifelink such as Lab reports, Radiology results, Medical reports, Medication administration records etc.
- Accept ownership and responsibility for all actions, tasks and requests to enhance medical records management and hospital compliance and reputation.
- Carry out any other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should hold a Diploma in Records Management, Medical Records Management or Library and Information Systems from a recognized institution
- One year of work experience in a medical facility,
- Experience using computers and data entry software
- Excellent Verbal and Written Skills,
- Basic Computer skills,
- Good typing and data entry skills,
- Familiarity with medical terminology
