Mbarara University Staff Back on Strike, Want VC to Resign

The Mbarara University of Science and Technology(MUST) staff has opted for a sit-down-strike protesting against the management of the University under Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestino Obua.

The staff demand for the resignation of  VC Obua over failure to loop the holes in the administration. They want the University Council to select a committee which will find another more suitable Vice Chancellor.

In a press release on May 2, Dr John Emenyu, the chairperson of the Mbarara University of Science and Technology Academic Staff Association (MUSTASA),  sited the lack of transparency and the mismanagement of funds as the major sparks of the industrial action.

“All emergency services in the faculty of Medicine and Department of University Security will remain functional,” the statement said.

The statement also revealed that the University Teaching and Non-Teaching staff have been involved in a series of six meetings in which the agreed to revive the strike.

Today marks the 6th General Assembly meeting on matters of misconduct and mismanagement of MUST by Professor Celestino Obua” The statement read.
