Mbarara University of Science and Technology passes out 983 graduates including 7 PhDs

Mbarara University of Science and Technology held its 21st Graduation Ceremony on 31st Janaury 2015 at the university’s Kihumuro Main Campus Grounds.

The function was presided over by the Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mugyenyi and attended by several notable guests including the Minsiter of Education and Sports, Hon. Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo.

This year’s congregation was indeed very special; Being the first ever graduation ceremony at the Kihumuro Main Campus grounds as well as being the first for the new university Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestino Obua who assumed office in October 2014.

In his address, the Chancellor congratulated the graduands and also specially thanked Prof. Obua for ably taking up the mantle of leadership from the pioneer Vice Chancellor, Prof. F.I.B Kayanja. The Chancellor also expressed his joy at the witnessing the spectacle of the very first graduation at the University.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo reiterated the Government of Uganda’s continued support to the development of the University and in particular reported that Government had secured 12.5 Million US Dollars for the infrastructural development of Kihumuro, establishment of Science laboratories, ICT support and Staff development through an African Development Bank Loan. She also informed the congregation that government was set to implement a pay-rise for all academic staff in the next financial year.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Obua reported that he had successfully familiarised with his duties at the University and provided a summary report on the status of the university. He further reported that one of his major objectives was to harness the progress of research at the university.

A total of 983 graduands including 7 Phds were conferred upon Diplomas and Degrees.
