Maternal Facility brings New Hope to Kituntu Residents in Mpigi

With a new maternal building underway, residents of Kituntu, a sub-county in Mpigi district are assured of a better health for all expectant mothers and new-borns in the area.

This new development is going to put an end to the long, lonely and dangerous distances pregnant mothers scavenge for their antenatal visits and delivery.

Lawyer and resident of the sub-county, Mr Yusuf Nsibambi, said he was touched by how women suffer through the pregnancy and delivery.

Talking to Daily Monitor, Nsibambi said that most mothers come to deliver without essential items such as mama kits.

Additionally, the lawyer organised a free health camp for the residents for free malaria testing, treatment, Hepatitis B testing and vaccination dental check-ups and extraction, cancer screening and heart check-ups.

Herman Nnyanzi, a resident of the area accepts this is going to bring tremendous positive change in the area and also mend women’s broken hearts.

“I normally ask for between Shs40,000 and Shs50,000 to buy items, which they claim is too much but now that we are going to have a fully equipped facility, this simplifies my work,” Ms Gertrude Kawooya told Daily Monitor.

Ms Kawooya is a midwife and has been working from one bedroom house for 28 years, helps 15 to 18 mothers deliver every month and 185 deliveries each year.
