Makerere University in partnership with University of Eldoret (Kenya – The lead institution), Rhodes University (South Africa), Official University of Bukavu (DR Congo), Mzuzu University (Malawi) together with University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria) have won Intra-Africa Academic Mobility scheme funding 2017 – to implement Collaborative training in fisheries and aquaculture in East, Central and Southern Africa” project activities.
The project also consists of target II countries institutions of Bahir Dar University (Ethiopia) and University of Abomey-Calavi (Benin) and Associate partners including Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM); Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation (LVFO) National Fisheries and Aquatic Life Research Centre (Ethiopia) and Maldeco Fisheries (Malawi).
The collaborative training and research project aims at improving the skills and competencies of academic staff in, research, training and supervision and enhancing production of quality, innovative and fit-for-purpose graduate in fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
The project also aims at harmonisation and internationalisation fisheries and aquaculture curricula and setting platform for transfer of credit among participating African Higher Education Institutions.
Overall the project will have 46 mobility: 10 staff (6 academic, 4 administrative) and 36 students [24 MSc (6 credit seeking, 18 degree-seeking), 12 PhD (4 credit seeking, 8 degree-seeking)]. Of which, 20 MSc and 9 PhD will be from target I while 4 MSc and 3 PhD from target II countries.
