Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor has praised Daily Monitor journalist and Makerere University former student Mr Alex Esagala for winning the Press Photo Award.
The Makerere University Vice Chancellor while at his offices on Wednesday at Makerere main campus expressed his happiness to the reporter and urged him to even do better.
“This is a wonderful achievement so far. You can even do better because I know you have the potential in this field,” he said.
Mr Esagala has now won the photojournalism award for the second time in two years. He was the overall winner of photojournalism in the Africa Centre for Media Excellence Awards, 2016/17.
Nawangwe said that though the photo had no good image on the University, Mr Alex Esagala deserved the award.
“A photo speaks a thousand words. Thank you for freezing that moment and indeed all your works have been excellent. It is not a good photo for us but you deserve the accolade,” he said.
Mr Esagala praised Makerere University and indeed Daily Monitor for being a key part in his success.
“I am sure I am not where I should be but I am sure I am not where I was when I left school and when I first stepped at Daily Monitor. All these institutions have been so instrumental in making the person that I am today,” he said.
