Makerere University to take lead in the adoption of Israel Technology in Uganda

During a high level meeting held on Tuesday 18th July 2017, the Ambassador of Israel to Uganda, H.E Yahel Villan and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe agreed that Makerere University would take the lead in the adoption of Israeli technology for Uganda’s development.

Cognizant that Israel is one of the leading countries in smart technology, H.E The Ambassador and Prof. Nawangwe also discussed collaboration initiatives focusing on smart energy solutions and water harvesting technologies for Makerere University and Uganda in general. Makerere University will champion the implementation of Uganda-Israel programmes/ projects especially in the field of Agriculture and Agro studies.

Israel is a valuable partner in the realization of Makerere University’s vision-To be the leading institution for academic excellence and innovations in Africa. In 2013, Bar-llan University in Israel signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Makerere University in Uganda to enhance strategic collaboration in research, teaching and learning as well as knowledge transfer.

The Bar-llan University-Makerere University collaboration resulted in multiplier effects that enabled Makerere University staff and students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security to participate in the Agro Studies programme in Israel.
