Makerere University Students win Ugshs 300m to Champion Climate Change

One of the Vepox Filter co- Innovator

VEPOX, a team of Five Makerere University students from the College of Engineering Design Art and Technology have won a Euros75,000 (UGX 300million) grant in the Climate Launchpad Global competitions.

Having emerged second in the national competitions held on 26th September 2019, members of the VepoX Filter didnt give up and went on to represent Uganda, first in the regional challenge in Nairobi and later to Amsterdam, Netherlands for the global competitions on November 14 and 15, 2019.

Vepox filter is a water filtration technology that uses activated Carbon and Functionalized sand in order to make water from surface water sources portable for drinking especially in rural areas.

The VEPOX is among the lucky 16 groups that were selected from 130 teams into the EIT Climate-KIC accelerator program, with each group walking home with money amounting to Euros75,000.
