Makerere university students have a lot of hope in the newly elected Guild President, Bala David Bwiruka.
Like his campaigning slogan, “the tiger breaking the cage” the nominee managed to win the trust and support of the students fraternity.
Though he joined the race just a few days to the end of the campaigns, Bala strongly got the most crowds more than his rivals who had earlier campaigned.
According to Davidson Ndyabahika, a third year Journalism and Communication student, the fact that Bala managed to attract crowds, he has the ability to address the issues of students.
He adds that Bala should not take advantage of being put in power, but also be in position to articulate the grievances of university students; like delayed faculty allowances, the undimmed tuition policies and delayed results.
Remijus Odhiambo also a student says that by the fact that he calls himself a tiger, Bala David must be a tiger that has to look out for its prey; and as Makerere university students, our main prey or concern is that he makes rightful decisions that favor both the students and the university administration; not only the university passing policies that are not in favor of students.
Josephine Namyalo a social sciences student says that Bala has overcome so many obstacles; including being expelled from the Makerere university, nullified from the guild race but finally reinstated and managed to win a court case against the university.
This clearly shows us Bala is a leader ready to solve student issues and influence decision making; especially in situations where university administrators do not consult students.
