Makerere University Students Contribute Shs 8m for Suspended Colleagues’ Justice

Makerere University students from western Uganda have  collected a total sum of Ush8 million to aid the just hearing of the three suspended colleagues’ case.

The cheque was presented by the member of Western Uganda Students Association (WUSA) of Makerere University to the lawyer of the accused, Isaac Semakadde as part of the legal fees.

According to the WUSA president,  Bernard Taremwa, all members of the association contributed and promised to add an extra of 4 million when the semester commences.

Frank Bwambale alias Young, a student of journalism and mass communication, David Musiri, a student of bachelor of office and information management and Roy Rugumayo, a student of bachelor of commerce were suspended for allegedly organizing a strike.

The trio were dismissed from campus by the university deputy vice chancellor, Prof William Bazeyo on September 7 for using social media platforms to promote chaos at the campus by mobilizing other students to protest the 15 per cent tuition increment.

The Buganda Road Magistrate’s court charged the three students with incitement of violence. Although the case was to be heard on October 8th, it didn’t happen due to failure of the witnesses fro police to appear before court.

The court adjourned by the Grade One magistrate, Joan Acca Ketty at the request of State prosecutor, Elizabeth Nandala to give ample time to police witnesses; Joseph Nsabimana, the Wandegeya divisional police commander, Jude Masingano, the officer in charge of Makerere University police post and detectives Patrick Ogunya and Rona Kamugasha.

The matter will return to court on October 18 for hearing.
