Makerere University Staff to Strike Again Over Allowances
Makerere University‘s teaching and non-teaching staff are planning to stage another strike over failure of the University to remit their allowances.
These staff allege that last month, a total sum of Shs360m allowances was paid to only the top officials in the University management.
Daily monitor reported that a source, who preferred anonymity because he is not authorised to speak on behalf of the university, yesterday said the staff had decided to lay down their tools, which they are slated to announce in their general assembly tomorrow.
The source said the staff are also demanding general allowances.
However, Makerere university Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, said that the council had only reinstated leadership allowances and the rest of the money used for paying staff at colleges who have added in an extra effort like lecturing in the evening.
