Makerere University academic staff have attained the Advanced Political Education and Leadership Training at the National Leadership Institute (NALI).
The group comprised of 55 Professors, Associate Professors, Lecturers and Researchers all of whom under took a 35 days training course at NALI in Kyankwazi District.
The program covered philosophy, Pan-Africanism, Social Economic Transformation, Political Leadership, Financial Management Literacy and Military Skills.
Addressing the members present at the course-finish at the state house in Entebbe, President Yoweri Museveni hailed the NALI management for its continued effort towards political mentorship of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters into intellectual cadres.
“NRM has several tasks. It is challenged by lack of cadres to undertake the many national tasks. Politics is a gigantic subject covering a wide range of historic events that need to be studied,” he said
According to Prof. Peter Baguma , a lecturer at the Makerere School of Psychology who was also the leader of the delegation, there is a need to establish a think-tank (at Makerere University) at national level that should be employed for spearheading socio-economic transformation and planning for society.
The Lecturers that participated in the training proposed that all NALI activities should be done at the regional level and student leaders should be mandated to enroll for the training.
Brigadier David Kasura Kyomukama, the NALI director emphasized that the program is a key virtue in creating more chances to nurture more agents of political transformation in the country.
