A graduate of Makerere University , Tugume, frustrated by the huge number of youth unemployment has embarked on a single-handed demonstration.

The 24 year old Innocent Tugume has decided to ride a bicycle for 380KM from Mitooma District in Western Uganda to Kampala to demonstrate his dissatisfaction over the high unemployment rate among the youths in Uganda.

Tugume graduated with a degree in Environmental Science from Makerere University last year but has not found himself a job despite studying a science course.

Monitor newspaper reported that Tugume started the strike from his home village Kashenshero, in Mitooma.

“Ride Demonstration Against Youth Unemployment Crisis in Uganda”, is the theme for his demonstration.
On his arrival to Kampala, he plans to call for a conference at city square where unemployed youths will come up with a solution.

Every year the universities and colleges pass out over 400 graduates and about 62 per cent of youths in Uganda are unemployed.

The government has reserved about Shs256 billion for the Youth Fund to ease unemployment, but Tugume said the initiative is yet to benefit the youths.
