Makerere university: Campaigning with bands is a violation against students’ Rights – Lubega Henry

Lubega Henry is one of the presidential candidates at Makerere university.

Those who have keenly followed Makerere university guild campaigns process have realized the distinctive character that Lubega Henry portrays. He is one of the candidates in the race for the guild presidential post on an independent ticket.

Unlike other candidates, Lubega in his African wear, doesn’t show up with a mammoth of students or call them supporters in this case; cheering him as he appears for different campaign rallies but he tries to explain that this creates noise pollution thus violating students rights.

“The society we are in is indoctrinated with noise, they seem to need noise as a form of campaigning but it’s very wrong, it disorganizes; say the people who are having classes yet they have a right to education” explains Lubega.

“I personally do Human Rights and if you’re enjoying your rights but stepping on other people’s rights then it’s wrong” he adds.

While speaking to Campus Times, Lubega believes that doing ground work is the best way to winning the race, he argues that speaking to a person one on one than “making noise” is more effective, he also believes that hanging posters is just enough for “publicity” instead of giving out logistics which he describes as election malpractice.

When asked why he chooses to appear in African attire instead of suits like the opponents he defends that a suit doesn’t do service delivery; he is simply promoting his African culture.

These include Opoya Michael, Baguma Andrew, Namulindwa Stellah, Lubega Henry, Mukula George Williams, Mwine Musa, Sentogo Ivan, Bamwoya Tusiime F.
