Makerere University administrative staff on strike

Time Check: 8:39 am, it is Monday 3rd August 2015 at Makerere university, the University is dull and the Environment is still calm, only sounds of early morning birds and restless moving cars; people look stranded and guess what!! The non teaching staff are on strike over salary increment.

I move around the main university units ie. Senate, main library, main building. All administrative units are closed . Police takes care of main building with sniffer dogs patroling.

At senate building, an old woman says, “until they remove the discrimination.”

But wait; I meet an old woman cleaning near with A&M cleaning services called Mulokole Betty Kabazungu who tells me that for them they have to work because they are on contract.

A woman cleaning at Makerere university.

“Me am on a contract, and my company is this (showing me a reflector) for us our bosses never told us that we would be on strike, ” she says.
