Makerere University has started a new course for laboratory technicians. The new course will be taught in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-security.
“The course, Bachelor on Laboratory Science Education and Industry will enable students carry out internship programmes as part of their training while they play the role of school lab technicians to the attachment schools”, the principal of the college, Prof. John D. Kabasa.
Kabasa said the course comes will fill the gap created after the government made all science subjects compulsory in secondary schools.
The laboratory technicians’ course is a government initiative aimed at increasing the number of laboratory technicians in secondary schools.
The new course targets youth graduates, school leavers, and farmers to be trained in their professional career to make production and enterprise development from a business perspective.
