Makerere university lecturers go on strike

Prof. Ssentamu Ddumba, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere university

Makerere University staff have vowed not to go to class again until the University Council  increases their  salary by 100 per cent.

Exams are set to start tomorrow 6th May. However, if the lecturers demands are not met, exams will not be done.

To increase the lecturers’ salary by 100%, the  university needs about Shs75 billion which the university claims is not available.

However, if the university council resolves to increase the lecturers salary demands, the students will suffer the burden as tuition fees might be increased to raise money.

But it will also be a hard policy to implement as the students will also be forced to strike.

Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu, the vice chancellor of Makerere university requested both teaching and non-teaching staff plus the students to remain calm as the council looks for a workable solution.
