Makerere and KYU Students Set to Compete in Global ICT Competition in China

Prof. Eli Katunguka, vice chancellor of Kyambogo University, and Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, vice chancellor of Makerere University, today sent off students from their respective institutions to China to compete in an ICT competition.

The students will compete for Uganda in the 2022–2023 Huawei Global ICT contests in China.

“Today, I flagged off 6 @Makerere university students and their instructor to China, these shall be representing Uganda in the Huawei Global ICT competitions 2022/2023. These topped Africa in the computing track and network track (Datacom, Security & WLAN) by taking the grand and first prize respectively,” Prof Nawangwe tweeted.

Over sixty countries and 213 teams from southern Africa, northern Africa, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, Latin America, and ME&CA will compete in the final in Shenzhen, China, the home of Huawei.

It should be remembered that a group of Makerere University ICT students won this year’s Huawei ICT Africa competition’s first prize in the network track and the grand prize in the computer track. The competition was held in South Africa.
