Makerere University is set to revive its radio station back on air and start an online television in a month’s time.
This was confirmed by the university VC Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe While addressing the 7th National Conference on Communications opening ceremony.
Prof. Barnabas said that the radio and television stations will help Journalism students gain skills.
The event was held at Makerere University auditorium of Central Teaching Facility Two under the theme, “Inclusive Digital Transformation in Uganda, opportunities, and challenges.”
Makerere University Journalism students have for a quite long got challenges concerning missing out on the practical skills of journalism following a move by the Uganda Communications Commission to withdraw their frequency which was later sold to Salt television.
Student leaders of the previous years strived hard to engage the administration in ensuring the frequency is back but in vain.
The Vice Chancellor’s intervention is therefore a relief to the Makerereans.
