The gowns’ late arrival had left many especially graduands pessimistic on whether the graduation ceremonies scheduled for next week will go by the book.
However, the delays were due to late payments that were cleared and according to Mr. Masikye, no plan has changed.
How to get your gown
Unlike the previous years where gowns were picked from the Sedate stores, all graduands will receive their gowns from their respective colleges to save on time and avoid incoveniences.
The first batch will be receiving the gowns on Thursday, January 9 as revealed by the acting University Communications and International Relations Manager, Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke.
Only University Gowns
Effective last year 2019, the University put forth a bi-law limiting the buying of graduation gowns from only Makerere as opposed to the previous method where graduands could buy them from Wandegeya and other tailors.
Therefore, for Uniformity and quality assurance, the University administration setup a Shs98,000 graduation gown fee to be paid by each graduand.
At the 70th graduation ceremony, over 13,000 graduands will be awarded with Maout of the more than 13,000 required for the 70th graduation ceremonies scheduled for next week. The arrival of the consignment was confirmed by the in a report to the Ceremonies committee on Wednesday morning.
