Liverpool suffer a heavy defeat against Real Madrid in a brutal 2-5 loss

Liverpool was brutally beaten by Real Madrid in a 2-5 loss despite being two goals up early in their Champions League round-of-16 first leg at Anfield.

This went to being Liverpool’s heaviest-ever home defeat in Europe, Real Madrid won in the first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie, scoring five goals to Liverpool’s two.

Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema each scored two goals to complete Real Madrid’s comeback after Liverpool had taken a 2-0 lead with goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah.

Vinicius scored the first goal for Real Madrid by shooting the ball low into the far corner of goalkeeper Alisson’s net. Later, Alisson made an error similar to the one made by Real Madrid goalkeeper Courtois, allowing Vinicius to score his second goal of the night.

Early in the second half, Real Madrid took the lead with a header from Eder Militao, who connected with Luka Modric’s free-kick. They extended their lead when Karim Benzema’s shot deflected off Joe Gomez and went past goalkeeper Alisson. After Benzema added a brilliant second goal, Liverpool’s spirit was broken.

The results leave Klopp and his players needing a miracle at the Bernabeu next month.
