Shock gripped children when they found dogs eating the body of their mother, who had gone missing for three days after a drinking spree.
Leonard Tushemerirwe’s body was discovered rotting and being eaten by dogs in a garden, about 100 metres from her home in Rwempango Cell, Bukinda sub-county in Rukiga district.
In a press statement, Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesman, said they had commenced investigations to establish the circumstances under which the mother died.
He said her body was discovered on Sunday (September 25, 2022) morning.
The Police recorded the case as suspected murder under file name CRB 453/2023.
But residents later informed the Police that the 43-year-old mother was a habitual drunkard and that on 23/9/2022, she was seen drinking in several bars in Kyerero Trading Centre and that when she became too drunk, she disappeared.
They said they guessed she had gone home and no follow-up was made until they received the news of her death.
On Saturday, September 24, according to Maate, the children reported the matter to the area chairperson, one Tushabe, who organised the residents to carry out a search in the village and the body was discovered.
The Police picked the body and took it to Kabale hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination as inquiries continued
