Job Title: Legal Manager – Commercial

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage all contracts and provide legal advise for all the transactions initiated by the commercial teams.
- Mitigate litigation risk and manage all commercial disputes.
- Manage the legal risk related to the retail network, distributors, B2B and B2G customers, Card and consignment sites.
- Provide legal advisory for all company operations, decisions and transactions.
- Executing the debt collection strategy.
- Ensure the company’s operations are in compliance with the applicable laws, regulations, voluntary commitments and standards e.g. regulatory and compliance assessments, legal watch, acquisition of licenses and permits etc.
- Train and awareness of employees and the company on the laws and expectations of the law affecting their roles and duties.
- Manage the external legal panel supporting the execution of the roles’ objectives.
- Preparation and responsibility for the section’s budget.
- Ensure that all operations are carried out in accordance with the code of conduct and applicable laws.
- Manage key legal regulatory stakeholders in line with the rules, procedures and policies on the same.
- Support the deployment of the Company’s compliance program e.g. maintaining due diligence records, training employees/ third parties, coordination of the annual Conflict of Interest declarations, gift registers, competition law and other related declarations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Laws.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Legal practice is a must.
- Member of the Uganda Law Society and East African Law Society.
- At least eight (8) years of post-graduate experience working in a corporate environment.
- Excellent communicator and innovative Legal-business solutions.
