Job Summary: The Legal Fellows will be based in Kampala (2), Gulu (1) and Fort Portal (1) and report to the Manager, Legal, with guidance from the Legal Coordinators within the field locations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support collaborative casework through providing timely legal research, legal representation to survivors and working with duty bearers to respond to cases of violence against women and children (VAWC);
- Contribute to maintaining partner relations with justice system officials and other stakeholders to strengthen the justice systems response to VAWC; and
- Document all casework and justice system-strengthening tasks and reports to contribute to updated case management.
- Participate in all learning sessions as guided by the Manager, Legal.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor of laws degree and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice;
- A practicing Certificate is an added advantage;
- One year of work experience in criminal legal practice. Preferably involved in successfully handling cases related to violence against women and children in Uganda;
- Excellent critical thinking, legal analysis, and oral and written communication skills;
- Experience working with Uganda criminal justice agencies is desirable;
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary work environment is desirable;
- Excellent Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Mature Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed;
- Self-starter with strong initiative;
- Disciplined with priorities;
- Strong interpersonal skills and self-awareness;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication;
- Flexible, collaborative and eager to learn and support others;
- Effective team player who fosters a collaborative environment; and
- Adept at creative problem solving.
- Fluency in the English language and Local language both written and spoken is mandatory;
