Kyambogo University to invest in real estate

Kyambogo University

Kyambogo University will use part of their land for real estate development, the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Eli Katunguka has revealed.

The plan is aimed at raising funds to develop the second largest public university in Uganda.
Prof Eli Katunguka said the land that is being occupied by the institution’s farm will be used to build hostels, apartments, rentals and sports facilities.
The farm will be relocated to Kyambogo University’s 180-acre land in Namasiga, Mukono district.
He said that the underfunding of the institution is the lead cause of the many challenges they are facing such as limited staff, shortage of office space, poor sanitary conditions, limited ICT infrastructure. All these have resulted into poor motivation of the staff at Kyambogo university.
Some of real estate projects will be built using funds generated internally while other projects will be undertaken under Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) and using donations.
Lawrence Madete, the university spokesperson said the project is part of the university’s master plan (2013-2030) which was recently launched by President Yoweri Museveni.
