Kyambogo university students on sit-down strike

Kyambogo University .

Kyambogo University students are on an “indefinite sit-down strike”. Student leaders have said their strike will go on until lecturers end their strike and resume teaching.

Student leaders told reporters they will take turns sitting on the floor in front of the university administration block until management and staff resolve the on-going lecturers strike.

Kyambogo University staff members went on strike protesting the return of Vice Chancellor, Prof Isaiah Ndiege last month.

Since then lecturers and other staff have not been working and vowed never to return to work unless Prof. Ndiege is out of Kyambogo university.

Kyambogo University Council is meeting with stakeholders to negotiate the way forward today. The staff strike has forced students on several occasions to also strike demanding for lectures. Early this week a group of students expressed their dissatisfaction in front of the  administration block.

“In any organisation if you take long to carry out restructuring, some people grow wings. Please we’re calling upon the government to do the needful. Kyambogo university is ful of people with alot of egoism. I believe restructuring will lead to alasting solution,” a concerned student says.
