A Kyambogo University student has been maimed during a strike at the University in Banda, Kampala Thursday morning .

The student whose identity is yet to be disclosed sustained severe injuries when his hand was smashed losing all his fingers. The cause of the injuries are however yet to be known although some rumors point to a teargas canister which they suspect was thrown at him.

Others allege that the injured was hit by a rubber bullet fired by police to disperse the striking students.

Students are demonstrating against a policy that requires them to have cleared tuition by the 12th week of the semester or risk an automatic dead semester.

The 12^th week ends on Saturday March 31^st
