Kenya’s World champion Nicholas Bett dies in car crash

Nicholas Bett, kenya’s first gold winner in the world championship has been involved in a car crash which steered his death.

According to media in Kenya, the 28-year-old was driving in Nandi County today morning when his car swerved off the road while returning from the African Championships in Nigeria, which finished on Monday.

Nandi is a hilly area that athletes use for high-altitude training.

Bett became the first Kenyan to get a world championships gold at a distance shorter than 800m when he emerged the best in the 400m hurdles.He was also a two-time African bronze medallist.

In the Commonwealth Games held in Australia this year, Bett was the eighth in the 400m hurdles.

Bett’s coach, Vincent Mumo, confirmed that at around 6am the athlete hit a bump in the road before losing control of his car.

Patrick Wambani, the Nandi police commander, reported the gold medalist’s death.
