Kemierembe Ronah has finally been sworn in as the 3rd female Guild President of Nkumba university for the year 2015/2016 at a function presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hanington Ssengendo on Monday 20th April, 2015.
It should be remembered that Kemirembe’s victory had been challenged by Nabatanzi Moreen who petitioned the university students’ affairs committee claiming that Kemirembe had not made 50% of the electorate as required by the Ugandan Constitution.
Kemirembe had gotten 36.7% of the total votes. However, the students’ affairs committee dismissed the petition.
While speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Hanington Ssengendo cautioned the new guild leaders against strikes and any kind of misbehavior.
“Work with the university management team in harmony in order to solve students’ problems instead of resorting to strikes.” Ssengendo said.
He also tasked the students leaders to sensitize and encourage their fellow students to pay fees, use the library and avoid exam malpractice.
“Utilize the various offices for advice and emphasize the 4Cs of the university (Competence, Character, Confidence and Character )”, Ssengendo stressed.
The function was attended by the dean of students, Kasasa Christopher, the outgoing Nkumba university Guild President, Byarugaba Julius, Deans of the different schools , staff members and studnts.
