Karim Ndugwa scores winner as Wakiso Giants silence Tooro United

Newly promoted Uganda Premier League club Wakiso Giants condemned Tooro United to a 2-1 win in pilsner super 8 match played on Tuesday at Wakissha Resource Center.

Ndugwa scored the winner with ten minutes remaining.

Former KCCA forward Geoffrey Sserunkuma put the Purple Sharks ahead in the first half from the spot kick after being brought down in the penalty area.

After a lot of pressure from the Purple Sharks, Tooro United went on for a substitute and Musa Mukasa was taken off and replaced by Isa Mubiru after 28 minutes.

Davis Ssali equalized for Tooro United before the break when Teko sent Davis Ssali on his way before the winger bit the back of the net.

Tooro United would have got the second before the break through a corner when Simon Namwanja stretched to diverted Isa Mubiru’s cross.

Karim Ndugwa was brought on to replace Mugume for Wakiso Giants after the restart. The change paid off when Ndugwa scored the winner with ten minutes remaining.

Wakiso Giants midfielder Hakim “Lei” Ssenkumba was named the pilsner man of the match, earning a plaque and Shs. 200,000.

This was a second loss to Tooro United having earlier lost 5-4 in penalties to Onduparaka in Arua after a goal-less contest in normal time.

Wakiso Giants awaits a winner between Proline and URA to fight for the fifth place.

Tooro United plays against the loser from the URA against Proline duel to determine who finishes seventh and eighth respectively.

In the other side, URA faces Proline at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Wednesday 14th August 2019.
