UNCST (The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology) has accredited Kabale University Research Ethics Committee-KAB-REC to carry out an ethical review of research protocols.
The primary objective of KAB-REC is to evaluate the scientific and ethical aspects of proposals and protocols submitted to the committee from both national and international sources, with a focus on protecting the rights, safety, and well-being of research participants.
On March 13th, 2023, Kabale University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joy Constance Kwesiga, issued a press statement announcing that the university had successfully undergone a thorough assessment process and had received a certificate of accreditation. The statement indicated that the university had trained committee members and various staff members in preparation for the commencement of research activities.

The accreditation is a requirement for every University to acquire from the council to carry out professional and reputable research.
The University will now start to administer and conduct research in all fields by both students and non-students in all academic fields.
The University has been struggling to carry out research from Mbarara University of Science and Technology adding that it was tiresome and costly to the University and the students.
