JUNIOR EU AID VOLUNTEER – COMMUNICATION AND VISIBILITY

DESCRIPTION

The Communication and Visibility volunteer is responsible for making ICCO’s work and its impact on smallholder farmers, agripreneurs and youth in Uganda more visible by developing communication and visibility materials for the High Flyers programme.

This Communication and Visibility Role includes an apprenticeship opportunity of 1 month in Europe followed by a direct 1 year deployment in Uganda, at ICCO premises.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Visibility and Communication Officer To make ICCO’s work and its impact on smallholder farmers, agripreneurs and youth in Uganda more visible by the development of communication and visibility materials for the High Flyers programme.

  • Design and development of content for communication channels, such as flyers, posters, social media and webpages.
  • Writing impact/success stories about the communities of ICCO’s programme in Uganda.
  • Supporting ICCO’s communication staff in the region.
  • Support in the design and implementation of advocacy messages and materials, and support and develop materials for conferences, training and meetings.
  • Co-writing and/or providing input for Monitoring & Evaluation reports for ICCO programs in the region including case studies and stories of change.
  • Support in building the capacity of local partners in communication and the use of media in advocacy.
  • Deliver quality information and communication material serving public support activities by the ICCO regional office (including fundraising), targeting the general public, congregations, private funds, equity funds and other (institutional) target groups.
  • Support in writing program development documents to donors and partners.
  • Contribute to the development of quality funding proposals to be submitted to potential.

Apprenticeship

1-month apprenticeship in communication cluster in the global office of ICCO in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree/completed study in a relevant subject, e.g. journalism and/or a video & photography course.
  • Good English speaking and writing skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and result-driven.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Ability to connect with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to visit rural project areas and to stay there for a few days.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Affinity with the protestant character of ICCO and ICCO’s values and operating principles.
  • Motivated to work with youth and rural smallholder farmers and communities.

Eligibility and exception criteria:

The candidate for EU Aid Volunteers must be a citizen of the EU or a third-country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State and must have a minimum age of 18 years.

Availability for the following activities:

  • ECHO Central Training April – May 2020.
  • Pre-deployment induction in ICCO Cooperation HQ in Utrecht, The Netherlands in May 2020
  • Deployment starting from the data specified in the vacancy.
