Jobs – Senior Projects Officer

Uganda Development Corporation (UDC) is an investment institution established as a wholly owned government entity with the mandate to facilitate the industrial and economic development of Uganda. Established by the UDC Act Chapter 326 of 1952, Laws of Uganda, the mission of UDC is to make long-term investments in strategic sectors of the economy in order to stimulate industrial and economic development and thus spur private sector growth. This UDC will accomplish through investing in sectors of the economy which at times are not readily attractive to the private sector alone either due to high initial capital requirements, resource constraints or low returns in an immediate future and yet provide a strategic bridge that would foster private sector developments due to minimized risk.
Job Tittle: Senior Projects Officer- Agro Industry
Organisation: Uganda Development Corporation (UDC)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare annual work plans (narratives, logical framework, implementation schedules, budget costing)
  • Evaluate proposals for possible funding in areas aimed at promoting post harvest technologies that are best suited for adoption by Ugandan Large and Small to medium operators along the numerous Food Processing Value chains.
  • Liaise with development partners through proposals with an objective of soliciting for funds that would be used to promote agro-processing technologies and industry in Uganda
  • Advise on the viability adequacy and relevancy of the technologies for agro-based industries in Uganda.
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation of funded activities aimed at promoting the development of agro processing (whether primary or secondary) and adoption of standards by operators along the numerous agro- affiliated value chains.
  • In liaison with other stakeholders, facilitate short term training and awareness drives of rural farmers/ MSMES processors in food safety, standards, Good Manufacturing Practices, Management systems, Quality Assurance, HACCP etc.
  • Develop TORS and assessments for prospective consultants that would be hired or approved by UDC to conduct agro-processing affiliated baseline studies and consultancies.
  • Draft of quarterly and annual progressive reports on the implementation progress achieved, related challenges and suggested way forward.
  • Help to formulate policy geared at growing agro-processing and agribusiness in the country.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
  • The applicant should hold a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) Food science and Technology, Agro-processing or Agribusiness or related field.
  • MSc food technology and processing/ agribusiness/agro-processing or similar field
  • A minimum of four years experience at senior management level in agro processing, agribusiness, food processing, food policy and consulting, food quality management and standards systems.
  • Capacity to work under tight deadlines.
  • Good Writing and Presentation Skills
  • High level of integrity.
  • Self-motivation
