Save the children boosts a staff capacity of over 200 in Uganda presently. We save children’s lives and fight for their rights to make them fulfill their potential. In 2012, we reached more than 100 million children around the world.

Job Summary: The Senior Officer will primarily be responsible for operationalising the Youth Skills Enhancement Project (YSEP). He/she will be involved in the project planning, implementation, capacity enhancement, monitoring and evaluation as well as reporting both internally (within SCI) and externally (for/with partners). The officer is responsible for execution of the project interventions both directly and working closely with implementing partners. The Senior Officer may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should possess a Bachelors’ Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Education particularly Non Formal education and/or any related field. Post-graduate training in project planning & management, monitoring and evaluation, or related field is an added advantage
  • Three or more years of accrued working experience with an international NGO dealing with child and/or youth-focused interventions.
  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.

Philimon Badagawa is a multimedia journalist with skills in news gathering, packaging, editing and online publishing. He has knowledge in data visualization, can design and manage websites. He previously worked as a journalist with Observer media and authored several articles and stories. He does research, video & audio recording, editing and production for online publication. He Participated in The New Dawn photography campaign aimed at rebranding Northern Uganda-USAID/NUTI Project (2010). Philimon is in love with photography, writing, reading, sharing new ideas and interacting with reasonable people for skills development.
