Job Title: Public Relations Officer
Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private university established in 1993, and owned by the Uganda Episcopal Conference. UMU received a civil University Charter in 2005 from government, to legitimize its existence and autonomy. UMU offers full-time, weekend/part time, and distance-learning courses. Students are drawn from a variety of backgrounds and countries like Uganda, the rest of Africa and world-wide.
Job Summary: The Public Relations Officer must ensure that the University is well publicized as widely and comprehensively as possible, in the most effective and efficient manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes the image of the University
- Markets University programmes, products and services in consultation with the Director for University Advancement and the Registrar.
- Makes arrangements for University functions e.g. Graduations. UMU days etc
- Quickly responds to issues published in the public and private media in consultation with the Director for University Advancement.
- Enhances good relations with the Alumni and promotes the growth of the Alumni Association in conjunction with the Alumni Relations Officer
- Markets Uganda Martyrs University in the East African Community and COMESA
- Supports international staff and students to obtain resident visas.
- Attracts staff and students from other countries.
- Welcomes and inducts new faculty and students to the University and provides them with relevant information about the University and the Country at large.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Director for University Advancement
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The candidate should have either a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Management MBA (Marketing) or an MA Mass Communication in International Relations and other related Postgraduate degrees.
- A minimum of three years’ experience working as a Public Relations Officer in a reputable institution.
- Computer literacy i.e. proficient in various computer packages like word processing. Excel and Desktop Publishers.
- Possess good communication skills, publicity and interpersonal relations skills. But above all s/he should be a person of character.
- Willingness to work long hours with minimum supervision.
