Job Summary: The Program Officer, Reproductive Health to oversee and coordinate cervical cancer prevention activities in Uganda and in the African region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Offer support from senior technical staff, provide technical assistance on organization of cervical cancer screening and treatment programs to countries within Africa, including providing print and web resources, organizing stakeholder meetings, providing input into policy documents, and developing and overseeing timelines for activities.
  • Participate in planning and preparations aimed at establishing a training center of excellency at the Uganda cancer institute (UCI) for cervical cancer secondary prevention for the African region.
  • Participate in planning, organizing and coordinating as appropriate, PATH-sponsored trainings of providers in cervical cancer secondary prevention techniques and methods.
  • Contribute to the overall training by participating in the refinement of content, training materials and support supervision of new providers following the training.
  • Monitor and trouble-shoot project administration and management challenges at UCI through regular site visits to ensure that all aspects of the project adhere to Uganda’s and PATH’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure complete and accurate project deliverable are submitted to PATH on due dates and in a format that is acceptable to PATH.
  • Manage field evaluation of a new cryotherapy technology (CryoPen) in 2 sites in Kampala and 1 rural site, including securing of necessary permissions, orientation of staff, and documentation of field experience.
  • Oversee landscaping exercise for care HPV in Uganda and provide support to colleagues in Kenya and Tanzania for similar landscaping exercise; work with Seattle team to develop instruments and ensure quality and timely data collection and reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Ministry of Health and the relevant departments in the planning and implementing of cervical cancer prevention activities in Uganda.
  • Represent PATH, if requested, in relevant national or international meetings in liaison with the Uganda country leader and/or headquarters.
  • Participate in generation of ideas and plans to expand PATH’s activities in Uganda in line with the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the country leader and or headquarters team.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • The applicant should possess a background in medical sciences and Masters in public health, epidemiology, population studies or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience, interest and knowledge of cervical cancer prevention activities.
  • Possess a proven ability to work collaboratively with local and international project teams.
  • Demonstrated skills in project planning, project management, and partner coordination
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and problem solving skills.
  • Organizational/facilitation skills (e.g. prepare agendas, facilitate meetings, and prepare reports etc).
  • Demonstrated representational experience in professional and global forum.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Team work and flexibility to take on new tasks.
