Job Title: National Director
Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. The purpose and goal of Habitat for Humanity International is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses in partnership with families in need. Habitat for Humanity has an Administrative Headquarters based in Atlanta, an Operational Headquarters based in Americus, Georgia, and Area Office bases of operations in Manilla, Philippines for our Asia and Pacific work, San Jose, Costa Rica for our Latin American and Caribbean work and Bratislava, Slovakia for our Europe, the Middle East and Africa work.
HFH Uganda has Built, Rehabilitated, Repaired or Improved more than 12,000 housing units in Uganda, providing simple, affordable shelter for over 52,386 individuals.
Job Summary: The Habitat for Humanity National Director will be responsible for developing the capacity of the National Organization (NO) and its board of directors to fulfill the purposes of Habitat for Humanity in this country. The National Director will provide servant leadership to the national organization, its volunteers and staff, and its programs and partnerships.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should hold a good University degree in a relevant field, such as international development or relations, public administration, management, civil engineering, and/or social sciences.
- Postgraduate qualification in relevant fields such as community development, non-profit/NGO management, board development, resource development, communications, and in country- or region-specific issues will be an advantage
- At least five years of successful international experience including three or more years effective management experience, preferably with Habitat for Humanity or in the non-profit sector and within the region of posting.
- Community development experience a distinct advantage
- Past exposure and experience in managing donor-funded projects, preferred
- Enthusiastic commitment to HFHI mission, purposes, goals, and mission focus.
- Excellent track-record of effective, exemplary servant leadership and general management.
- Past exposure and experience in managing people, budgets and other resources required.
- Alignment with and a commitment to model and articulate Habitat EMEA core values (Jesus Christ the foundation, integrity, unity in diversity, justice and equity, and single-mindedness).
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and public speaking skills.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity, diplomacy, and adaptability.
- Highly proficient in written and spoken English
- Knowledge of local Ugandan languages helpful, but not required.
- Computer literacy skills i.e. proficient with word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and email software applications.
- Good financial management and accounting skills.
- Familiarity with construction and appropriate technology preferred, but not required.
- A willingness to communicate and affirm the Christian roots and principles of Habitat for Humanity International, and Habitat for Humanity Uganda.
