Job Title: Loan Assessing Officer (BA3) – 00170140 (Several Career Opportunities)

Barclays Africa encompasses Barclays Global Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, and Barclaycard operations in 10 countries organised in four geographic areas: North Africa (Egypt), East and West Africa (Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya),  Southern Africa (Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe), and Indian Ocean (Mauritius and Seychelles).

Barclays Africa serves its 2.8m customers through a network of 573 branches and service centres providing a variety of traditional financial products including retail mortgages, current and deposit accounts, commercial lending, unsecured lending, credit cards, treasury and investments.

Job Summary: The Loan Assessing Officers will primarily conduct Risk Assessment for all loans with integrity and making appropriate decisions in line with the Barclay’s policies and procedures.                                                        

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Assessing of loan applications (80%): 

  • Assess application as per the policy guidelines and make appropriate decision (approvals, declines or rejects) in line with discretionary limits.
  • Analyse customer financial statements and proposition, making recommendations/modifications to the proposal so the request constitutes an acceptable risk to the Bank.
  • Monitor workflow
  • Capture fate of loan application on the system and standard template.
  • Confirm loan documents include signed offer letter with an offer amount which is within range.
  • For secured loans, sanction the loan and recommend for security perfection.
  • For rejects and declines; stamp and sign and update the system and assessment form before forwarding to receipt desk.

2. Control (10%)

  • Make sure that all loans meet the set product lending criteria before approval.
  • Ensure that all loan applications to be captured on the system and have been vetted with the vetters signature.
  • Send all suspicious loan applications to the fraud team for investigation.
  • Carry out snap checks as assigned by line manager.
  • Ensure safe custody of documents (loan applications and supporting documents), tools (Assessors stamp) and pass words to all systems.
  • Ensure accuracy of information entered in the system and standard template (assessment form) at all stages of the assessment process.

3. Customer Service (5%)

  • Cordially and quickly respond to queries relating to the loan assessing process from various stake holders with the set timelines.
  • Adhere to timelines within the service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure efficiency and quick turn around time (TAT) in loan processing.

4. Contribution to the team (5%)

  • Share best practice and any red flags that are a result of the assessment process.
  • Technically support other members of the front end team and others in the loan processing team when required to ensure business continuity and achievement of business targets.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • All candidates for the Barclays Loans Assessing Officer Vacancies should hold relevant   Bachelor’s Degrees.
