Job Title: Legal Officer
The National Drug Authority (NDA) is an autonomous body which was established by the National Drug Policy and Authority Act Cap 206 , Laws of Uganda (2000 Edition) to regulate Human and Veterinary Medicines and other healthcare products. NDA’s mandate is to ensure quality, safety and efficacy of human and veterinary medicines and other healthcare products through the regulation and control of their production, importation, distribution and use.
Job Summary: The Legal Officer will provide legal advisory services and counsel in the interests of NDA
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Offer legal counsel and advice in respect of compliance with the National Drug Policy and Authority Act as well as regulations made thereunder
- Guide and provide legal opinion to staff in other departments on the operationalisation of the NDP/ A Act.
- Provide guidance in respect of other legal corporate matters and ensuring compliance with any other Laws of Uganda as well as Regulations.
- Offer input into the development and implementation of enforcement and investigation procedures.
- Actively participate in the review of existing legislation governing the operations of NDA and advise on areas for amendment.
- Assemble information as is necessary for addressing legal matters in NDA operations or litigation.
- Offer legal interpretation for the effective implementation of the NDP/ A Act.
- Drafting legal documents and other legal correspondences.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- All candidates must hold Honor’s Bachelors Degrees in Law (LLB) from recognized Universities and /or institutions.
- Possession of Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Law Development Centre.
- Be an advocate of the High Court
- Membership of the relevant professional bodies
- A minimum of five (5)years’ experience in a similar position in a reputable organisation
- Excellent analytical, reporting and communication skills.
- Past exposure and experience setting performance targets, monitoring and appraising employee performance
- High degree of personal integrity
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent Legal drafting skills will be highly advantageous
- Working knowledge of the Laws of Uganda.
- Knowledge of the Laws governing NDA.
- Basic knowledge of Laws governing regional and international regulatory practices.
