Job Title: Fundraising and Partnerships Manager
Restless Development is a youth-led international development agency currently working in Africa and South Asia. In Uganda, Restless Development has been supporting youth-led development for over 15 years. We focus on three key areas of young people’s lives: livelihoods; sexual and reproductive health; and civic participation. All of our programmes are designed, implemented and monitored and evaluated by young people.
Job Summary: The incumbent will steer the Fundraising and Partnerships Unit and bring in the resources required to deliver on our ambitious national strategy. A member of the Leadership Team, she/he will work closely with the Country Director to identify new, and manage existing, partnerships. She/he will have proven fundraising experience and a strong commitment to youth-led development. She/he will lead on effective contract management of current grants while also pro- actively cultivating new partners and donors including bilateral and multilateral donors
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Fundraising strategy 45% Working closely with the Country Director and the Leadership Team:
- Develop and monitor implementation of fundraising strategies and plans
- Actively support project design and proposal development processes working closely with the Programme and Finance Units
- Steer the development of project budgets working closely with the Programme and Finance Units
- Identify and cultivate relationships with potential new donors, including leading and/or supporting others to lead strategic pitches
- Work closely with the international fundraising team to contribute to global fundraising and partnership efforts
2. Donor management and reporting 25%
- Work closely with staff from across the organisation to collect relevant information for high quality narrative and financial reports
- Build the capacity of Restless Development Uganda staff to lead on donor management and reporting where appropriate
- Lead on donor communications in collaboration with the Leadership Team
- Update and maintain the donor management and reporting systems
3. Membership of Leadership Team 15%
- Compile and produce monthly, quarterly and annual fundraising updates for review by the Leadership Team, national board and Restless Development International
- Actively participate in and contribute to Leadership Team meetings
- Support Leadership Team members with their responsibilities, including acting as cover whilst members are on leave, on in-country visits etc.
- Serve as a role model at all times, embodying Restless Development’s values and ensuring staff adherence to policy and procedure across the organisation
4. Human Resource and Financial Management 10% Line and performance manage the Marketing and Communications Officer
- Train and mentor staff across the organisation in fundraising and partnerships
- Develop and manage Restless Development Uganda’s annual budget for fundraising and partnership, including marketing activities
- Monitor fundraising projection figures on a regular basis
5. Marketing and Communications 5%
- Steer the fundraising/donor events and activities to raise the profile of the organisation, including building media partnerships to showcase our work
- Manage the development of communications materials, including the quarterly newsletter and annual report working closely with the Marketing and Communications Officer
- Act as a primary point of contact for all external and internal fundraising and partnerships queries
Key Performance Areas:
- Implementation of the fundraising strategy to secure the funds required for successful delivery of the national strategy
- Responsible for contract management of current grants, including timely donor reporting
- Contribute to organizational strategy through membership of the Leadership Team
- Human and financial resource management for the Fundraising Unit
- Management of marketing and communications
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should at least have three or more years of experience in fundraising and donor management, including proven experience of securing and managing multi-year grants from institutional donors, trusts and/or foundations
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English
- Strong partnerships and networking abilities, comfortable engaging with a range of
- stakeholders from youth to senior government and donor representatives
- Excellent numeracy skills, experience in budget development and management
- Excellent understanding of project cycle management
- Good knowledge and understanding of the national, regional and global funding trends
- Good knowledge of international development issues, especially in relation to
- youth sexual and reproductive health, livelihoods, and civic participation
- Good teamwork skills, including ability to coordinate cross-team collaborations
- Excellent multi-tasking and organisational skills
- Past exposure and experience coaching/mentoring others
- Past experience of working in development in an African context
- Experience of working with institutional donors including EC, USAID and DFID Knowledge of online social platforms for marketing and communications
- The successful candidate will be results oriented, have demonstrated analytical skills,
- The applicant must also be forward thinking and be able to drive high internal performance to maximise impact.
- He/she will have the interpersonal skills to establish and manage strong working relationships across different teams. He/she will enjoy working in a youthful, multi- and values.
