About UCU:
Uganda Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker Theological College trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono. International partnerships were part of the College’s missionary history. The Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and others to assure the College had the necessary intellectual and other capital. By the late 1990s, the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on society through the higher education – not only of clergy but of other professionals as well. Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.
Job Summary: The Director, Planning will provide oversight over drafting and reviews of the “Strategic Plan” of the University, including establishing and monitoring the priorities for teaching, research, and service in the University. Planning should prepare detailed multiple year plans (e.g. 3 and 6 year plans) for the physical, financial, human resource, and other requirements needed. Then, Planning should develop and monitor annual business plans including collecting and reviewing division and departmental goals and budgets.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement an integrated strategic plan that incorporates University programmes and services, financial plans, human resource plans, and physical plant requirements;
· Develop and recommend annual, 3, and 6 year plans that coincide with the Strategic Plan;
· Carry out periodic (mid-term) reviews of the Strategic Plan;
· Assure continuous coordination, goal-setting and implementation of the Strategic Plan across all the University Departments;
· Review and recommend annual department budgets;
· Work closely with the Department of Finance to assure that financial plans are carried out, including monitoring key financial and performance ratios;
· Liaise with all Departments and Human Resources to formulate Human Resource requirements and comment on proposals for new staff;
· Liaise with the Physical Planning Manager to assure that the physical plant is well planned for, and meets the needs of the University;
· Carry out periodic Institutional Research activities to benchmark and assure that Uganda Christian University stays competitive;
· Report to Cabinet and Council on strategic leadership issues;
· Perform any other official duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The Director Planning should possess a Masters in Management or (Business or Public) Administration or related fields from a recognised institution of Higher learning;
· A minimum of five or more years’ experience at senior level position performing similar roles as a planner or strategist;
· Past exposure and experience of having worked in an institution of Higher learning would be an added advantage;
· Demonstrate high standards of integrity, ethics, attention to detail, objective judgments and independence;
· Good computer literacy skills with proficiency in the use Microsoft Office packages such Excel, PowerPoint, Word and the internet;
· Excellent teamwork and organisation skills and team player.
· Mature, demonstrated Christian Commitment;
