Job Title: Advocacy and Strategic Relations Officer

The National Organic Agricultural Movement of Uganda (NOGAMU) is the membership apex organization that unites the producers, processors, exporters, NGOs and Business support Organizations involved in the Organic Sector in Uganda. NOGAMU is responsible for promotion of Organic agriculture in Uganda under the areas of: Market development, Standards & Certification, Training, Research & Extension, and Advocacy.

Job Summary: The Advocacy and Strategic Relations Officer will be responsible for providing Leadership and Technical support to the advocacy department through development of policies, advocacy strategies and plans, guidelines and practical promotional activities that will ensure the creation of awareness and strategic positioning of the organic sector in Uganda.

 Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and coordinate advocacy work at National level, as well as lobbying for the formulation of conducive policies supporting organic agriculture development in Uganda.
  • Set up strategic alliances for networking, collaboration and advocacy with the NOGAMU membership, key civil society organizations, as well as public and private agencies, in promoting Organic agriculture agricultural development in Uganda
  • Carry out policy reviews and produce policy review reports, working papers, briefs and fact sheets.
  • Work closely with NOGAMU membership and other stakeholders to identify areas of research that will enable policy formulation or design interventions to increase organic sector competitiveness
  • Identify new areas of research and carry out research and advocacy on major policy issues affecting the organic sector
  • Perform any other responsibilities, as may be identified from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should possess a Bachelors’ degree in Agriculture or Agri-business, Development studies, Social work and social administration, Economics, or related fields. All candidates with Master’s Degree will have added advantage.
  • At least two years’ working experience in a similar or related field
  • Past exposure and experience in strategic advocacy, extension services, policy development and implementation.
  • Past experience in research and development
  • Prior experience in preparing, monitoring policy and advocacy programmes
  • Capacity to promote networking, coordination and collaboration with stakeholders engaged in the organic sector
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Agriculture sector in Uganda
  • Very pro-active attitude, having the ability to work with limited supervision,
  • Good communication and report writing skills as well as proven knowledge in Basic computer skills
  • Excellent command of Spoken and Written in English
