Job Title:  M&E/Operations Coordinator

Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) is a German non-profit foundation engaged in project work worldwide promoting sustainable agricultural development, in particular in coffee producing countries.

Through the implementation of grass-root projects with focus on the value chain, the foundation’s objective is to improve the livelihoods of smallholder coffee farmers and their communities.

HRNS currently implements 24 projects in 13 coffee producing countries with interventions in organizational, agricultural, and economic development. Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung Africa (HRNS AF), the African subsidiary of HRNS, has a strong presence in East Africa with projects currently being implemented in a number of countries in the region.

Job Summary: The M&E/Operations Coordinator will mainly offer technical guidance, coordination and management oversight of all projects in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Prepare and manage the implementation of projects in support of smallholder farmer communities.
  • Proactively implement monitoring & evaluation systems to track performance and achievement of objectives.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system to produce timely reports to project partners and donors.
  • Carry out activities to coordinate implementation and disseminate information on the project work within platforms, meetings, workshops, conferences, field visits, etc.
  • Maintain communication with relevant Government departments, stakeholders and development organizations, assessing opportunities for further project work, scaling-up initiatives, conceptual development and other forms of cooperation.
  • Recruit, supervise and manage staff at field and at country office level.
  • Assess the need for capacity development of staff in accordance with the requirements of the projects and draw plans to address them
  • Work in liaison with wider/regional project management and contribute to strategic level discussions on the level of HRNS.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The candidate should possess at least five years’ experience in managing agricultural development projects at smallholder level in Africa, preferably with a focus on organizational development or agriculture.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (preferably related to agriculture) is mandatory
  • Proven experience with monitoring & evaluation tools and systems as well as with project cycle management.
  • Possess a good understanding of smallholder farming systems and commodity supply chains in rural Africa, preferably in East Africa.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the coffee value chain in general.
  • Familiarity with concrete approaches on gender, climate change and food security.
  • Past exposure and experience in coordinating multi stakeholder projects, public-private partnerships and in managing grants.
  • Significant experience in conducting steering committee meetings, in liaising with a diversity of stakeholders including Government bodies and in participation in commodity platforms.
  • Team leading and personnel management skills.
Language Requirements: Fluency in written and spoken English.
