Job Title:  Accountant (3 Career Opportunities)

Air Uganda, the home-based carrier for Uganda, was founded in 2007 and is part of the Celestair Group of Airlines, owned by the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development.

It is IOSA registered and operates to international aviation standards. The company has been expanding since 2007 and currently operates flights to Entebbe, Juba, Nairobi, Dar-es-Salaam, Mombasa, Kigali, Bujumbura and Mogadishu.

Job Summary:
The Air Uganda Accountants will offer support in running the company’s financial system on the SAP platform. The jobholders will also prepare periodic financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, budgets, cash flows, analyse variances and commentaries on the accounts. The financial specialists will also prepare, develop and analyze key financial information to ensure that the airline management makes well-informed decisions to ensure future stability, growth and profitability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Preparation and posting of financial transactions into SAP. Reconciling passenger revenue, cargo charter and preparing month end journal entries.
  • Reconcile cashbooks, balance sheet accounts, including deferred revenue, CAAs liability, on a monthly basis and resolve any reconciling items on a timely basis.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis for assigned accounts;
  • Compile and prepare statistical reports on a regular basis for management use; ensure internal controls are effectively maintained for revenue related areas;
  • Assist in the set up and tracking of revenue accounting for new marketing initiatives;
  • Compile and prepare periodic financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, cash flows, variance analysis and commentaries;
  • Make sure that spending is kept in line with the budget; inform key strategic decisions and formulate business strategies; analyze financial performance and so contribute to medium and long-term business planning/forecasts;
  • Intuitively interpret and communicate financial data to non-financial managers; and liaise with other function managers to put the finances and accounts in context.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidates for the 3 Accounting Jobs should possess professional accounting qualifications i.e. ACCA, CPA, CIMA or any other recognized professional accounting qualification, or BCom/BBA degree from a reputable university;
  • At least four years’ financial working experience in a similar role;
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office systems;
  • The applicants must be highly detail oriented and organized;
  • Possess excellent communication and analytical skills;
  • Past exposure and experience in SAP or any similar ERP package and airline industry will be an added advantage.
  • The Accountant should be results-driven, service-focused, team player, good negotiation skills, technologically aware, strong interpersonal skills and of unquestionable integrity.
