Job Title: Pupil Engineer (10 job Placements)
 
Uganda Television and Radio Uganda (the current Uganda Broadcasting Corporation) was born in 1963 one year after Uganda’s independence. However, radio was born in Uganda in 1954 and TV came in nine years after that. Its main aim was to broadcast through both mediums to the whole country as the national broadcaster.
After independence till the mid 1980’s Uganda was faced with a lot of economic hardships. As a result many institutions including the national broadcaster suffered a general deterioration. It is with this background that the Ugandan Government saw the need to restructure the former Uganda Television and Radio Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Technically supporting proper operation of broadcasting infrastructure including transmitters, switchers, routers, and microwave and satellite equipment.
  • Ensuring quality control of video/audio signals for recording and transmission
  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair, cabling and installation of studio, post production and transmission broadcast equipment including but not limited to analog/digital receivers, encoders, decoders, signal processors, multiplexers, video/IP routers, video servers, switchers and matrices, modulators, power amplifiers and antennas.
  • Ensure maintenance, repair, cabling and installation of basic computer hardware and software support is done in time
  • Conducting research, planning, design and implementation of projects
  • Compiling and submitting engineering activity reports to the assigned supervisors.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The Pupil Engineers should preferably hold Basic Degrees in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering from a recognized University.
  • Post graduate training in IT/ICT/ (CCNA, Diploma in IT/Computer Science) or an appreciable understanding of computer networking principles will be an added advantage.
  • Competence in working with testing tools like network and spectrum analyzers, wave form monitors and other test equipment
  • Highly proficient in analyzing circuits using circuit diagrams
  • Working knowledge of computer aided design software
  • High self motivation and team-oriented participation
  • Receptive to on job instructions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • On-call availability for support of the facility on 24/7 basis
  • Readiness to work in any part of the country
