Job – Technician at the Fuel Marking and Quality Monitoring Program

Job Title: Technician

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) are under taking the Fuel Marking and Quality Monitoring Program (FMP) to monitor the importation and trade of Petroleum products by preventing adulteration, dilution, contamination and smuggling thereby safeguarding consumers and the environment in addition to enhancing Uganda’s National revenue collections.

Job Summary: The Technician will mainly take part in in Laboratory analysis of fuel samples.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares reagents and standard solutions
  • Maintains glassware and equipment in operating conditions and service checks
  • Supervises housekeeping of the laboratory
  • Prepares lists of items to be purchased
  • Receives samples for analysis and appropriate storage where necessary
  • Performs petroleum product tests and maintains detailed records of all analysis
  • Initiates or recommends corrective actions to improve, as may be necessary, the quality control activities/system of the laboratories to conform to the authorized policies and procedures, and with sound laboratory practice
  • Perform any other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The candidate must hold a Diploma in Chemistry related field from a recognized institution
  • Possess good presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer software and data management skills
  • Practical experience with use of various analytical equipment in a chemical testing environment will be an added advantage

Age: Not more than 30 years
