JOB DETAILS:
THE MEDICAL FACILITIES
The medical facilities are well equipped in order to facilitate the immediate care, both medical and pastoral, of the pupils at GEMS-CIK. The two main sites where medical care is available for the pupils will be at the school and the boarding section.
THE ROLE
The role of the school Nurse at GEMS-CIK is to support pupil’s health and wellbeing in order for pupils to fully participate in active school life. .
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:
• The provision of medical care to pupils and staff on a daily basis:
• Ensuring the best possible medical care is available to pupils on an immediate and an emergency care basis
• Treating pupils as appropriate with the aim of encouraging pupils to return to their normal
• timetable as soon as appropriate
• Where necessary, arranging to get the pupil / person home safely or to alternative care, e.g. the
• Individual’s personal doctor or to hospital
• Administering medication accordingly
• Performing necessary health checks to assist with diagnosis
• Storing safely all medicines as per medical instruction
• Management of day-to-day activities at the clinic
o All clinics are appropriately staffed, stocked and equipped
o Ensuring safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs
o Provision of first aid kits around the school and replacement of supplies
• Timely maintenance of pupil files, medical records and clinic attendance records
• Development of health care plans or Risk Assessments where appropriate
• Giving support to relevant teaching staff in their dealings with pupils in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities
• Drafting and updating of “essential care list” of pupils with “need to know” conditions
• Providing general advice and training for staff for initial care of pupils with particular medical needs
• As appropriate, raising awareness of medical and health issues to pupils and staff throughout the School – this may be by distributing appropriate material via pastoral staff, or updating health issues on notice boards
• Involvement in Health and Safety issues in the school
• Weekend working may be required to cover fixtures and events but adequate notice will be given in advance
• Maintain a clinic log of clinic visits by students with appropriate descriptive information of the one treated, the diagnosis and action taken
• Counsel students and parents concerning health problems

• Maintain Confidentiality regarding school / work place matters
• Maintain a current list of all students concerning allergies, food intolerances, and acute and/or chronic conditions
• Carrying out any other duties as assigned by your supervisor

JOB SPECIFICATION
• Experience in either school nursing, pediatric nursing or adolescent health experience
• Ability to work independently without close supervision
• Computer Literate
• Excellent communication skills
• Medically fit to cope with a physically demanding site
• The ability to demonstrate an understanding of school protocols and policies
• Good working knowledge of child protection issues is a plus
• Working with special needs children is an added advantage
