Standard Chartered PLC is a British multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Hong Kong, China. It operates a network of over 1,700 branches and outlets (including subsidiaries, associates and joint ventures) across more than 70 countries and employs around 87,000 people. It is a universal bank with operations in consumer, corporate and institutional banking, and treasury services. Despite its UK base, it does not conduct retail banking in the UK, and around 90% of its profits come from Africa, United Kingdom, United States and the Middle East. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda is the longest established international bank in the country; the first branch was opened in August 1912. We had 11 branches up to 1972 and retained only one branch during the turbulence of the 70s. In 1998 we acquired 4 branches of former Cooperative Bank in November 1999. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda today has a network of 11 branches in Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Mbarara and Gulu. Standard Chartered Bank Uganda has 29 ATMs and over 600 staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Business Performance:

  • Implement and commercialise global standard Product program for Business Client Products in Uganda.
  • Effective collaboration with Client segments, Acquisition, Relationship and coverage teams in Global Banking, Transaction Banking and Commercial Banking to leverage on eco-system ultimately enabling budgeted Balance sheet.
  • Execute global standard Product Optimization strategies to deliver Product level RoRWA
  • Implement the integrated product segment strategy with specific enablers and track program performance along with Business Banking segment team.
  • Optimize fees and charges to create value for clients in line with consumer protection guidelines
  • Support learning academy for the development of appropriate training content for the acquisition, relationship and service teams
  • Responsible for Portfolio health on relevant products – delivery through regular engagement with Risk teams in country to track portfolio performance (through lead indicators) and taking necessary actions to ensure loan impairment is within approved and acceptable limits.

Product & Service Delivery

  • Have oversight and ownership on end-to-end (standard) process to ensure execution of on-boarding for clients and fulfillment of products through engagement with relevant stakeholders involved in executing the standard process to ensure we deliver a seamless client Value Proposition.
  • Complaints & Client Experience: Collaborate closely with the teams to Identify gaps and design failures in existing process and products and work with global and regional product teams to solve for endemic design issues to improve overall product and Service delivery

Product Launches & Product Maintenance

  • Execute the global Product standardization and Product rationalization agenda across Business Banking Products.
  • Work with segment and frontline teams to identify client needs and launch existing global product solutions to meet these needs. In the absence of existing global solutions work with the regional team to have the relevant proposition developed as a global solution for implementation

Governance

  • Manage compliance of Process, Product Governance & Credit Approval Documents
  • Ensure compliance to Group & Country Anti Money Laundering and Client Due Diligence policies

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Financials- Balance Sheet, P&L, RoRWA
  • Risk Management- managing leads indicators on delinquency and IIP
  • Effectiveness of controls -evidenced by satisfactory Audit results and Control Self Testings
  • Client feedback – Net Promoter Score, Voice of Customer surveys etc
  • People –  Engagement metrics (My Voice) and attrition
  • Professional Conduct – Ensure adherence to the Group’s set rules on Code of Conduct
