On Monday 1st August 2022 night, Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo won the men’s 10,000m gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The 21-year-old long-distance runner beat stiff competition from three Kenyans including of Kibiwott Kandie, Daniel Ebenyo and Edward Zakayo Pingua.
However, the Ugandan runner stunned everyone by putting up a record time of 27:09:19 to beat fellow Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei’s 10,000m record.
Kenyans occupied the other two podium spots with Ebenyo getting silver and Kandie bronze.
“I think for me winning this Commonwealth Games title was everything, the most important thing for me this season. But I still have a lot of things to do in the future at the Olympics and world championships,” the 21-year-old Kiplimo said.
His win ensured Uganda secured its second gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
