Job Title: IT Support Officer
Makerere University through the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training (DRGT) with funding from Swedish International Development corporation Agency (SIDA/SAREC) is implementing the Iganga-Mayuge Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS) Project. The site is a population based research centre covering parts of Iganga and Mayuge Districts. It monitors key demographic events (pregnancies, births, deaths and migrations).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop ICT policy for the project management and staff
- Update and maintain availability and integrity of our relational data base
- Carry out routine maintenance and servicing of IT equipment at the Site
- Actively monitor and maintain database security and software
- Maintain and regularly update the site’s website with relevant information and documentation
- Ensure proper functioning of the network security and internet connection by the service providers at all times
- Provide software programming services & technical support for use of electronic equipments of the organization including computers, PDAs, notebooks and GPS at all times
- Work closely with the Data Manager to update and maintain a Household Registration System (HRS) database at all times
- Ensure proper functioning of data storage, backup, and archiving facilities at all times

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, computer engineering or Information Technology from a recognized institution
- Excellent programming skills and hands on experience in .NET programming languages like VB.NET
- Good working knowledge of database design and management especially using Microsoft SQL server DBMS
- A minimum of two years’ experience in programming from a reputable organization
- Good knowledge of networking with Cisco certification like CCNA will be an added advantage
- Extensive working knowledge of windows domain administration using Active Directory
- Good hardware and software troubleshooting skills in IT
- Knowledge of Windows Operating System in both desktop and servers
- Skills in website design with experience in content management like Joomla or Druppal.
